External control - complete solution?

Hello,
are there any pre-build solutions that can be used for external control? I would need two IR sensors, one for starting the stopwatch, other for stopping it. If I understand correctly, this could be connected through one COM port. Any ideas?
Thank you.

Yes, standard build can be used connecting 2 sensors in parallel.

I use multiple IR beams, I have them wired into the Talk buttons "micro switch" on a couple of walkie talkies "Ham Radio's" and on anothor Walkie talkie i have wired into the recieve LED which switches a transistor which inturn activates a relay for closing the rs232 pins. Works Great and i can have a IR beam positioned several kilometers away with no problems.

I am not very technical and do not understand completely how I would be able to start and stop the stopwatch from an external position. Is there some hardware you could supply or explain exactly what I need to purchase that will allow me to do this?
Thanks

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately I still do not know exactly what to do? What piece of hardware do I have to buy to control the stopper externally? Or do I not have to buy anything?

Thanks for your reply, however I still do not know exactly what to do.
I need to be able to start and stop the timer from a position of 5-10 meters away from the computer. I understand that your software has the capability to do that but obviously some hardware will be needed that will trigger the on off. My questin is what hardware do I need to get and how would I connect that?
Thanks.

Who starts and stops the timer? Runners? You?
How? A simple push button would be enough?

Yes, I would start and stop, and yes a simple push button would be enough.

Then just buy a simple push button and connect its pair of contacts to 2 pins of COM port as stated at the picture. Modern PC might need
USB to COM adapter.
